Membership
While church membership is not specifically mentioned in the Bible, the practice of believers congregating locally is biblical. The early Christian church would meet on the first day of the week, Sunday, in remembrance and celebration of the Resurrection of our Lord. They would gather together for the hearing of God's Word, the breaking of bread, the singing of hymns and songs, prayers and supporting one another. The apostle Paul encourage congregation toward unity, in belief and proclamation. Becoming a member of Zion means you have joined with fellow believers, the family of God, to expand the kingdom of God, locally and beyond.
People are brought into membership in the following ways:
Baptism - We baptize all ages, from infants to elderly. Baptism is the means by which God, through water and Word, at the command of Jesus (Matthew 28:19) mysteriously and officially connects us to the forgiveness of Jesus and marks us a member of His family. If you are interested in more information on our beliefs about Baptism it can be found here.
Confirmation - The Rite of Confirmation for youth is one in which a young person confesses for themselves what was given to them and confessed for them at the time of their baptism. Adults who are not baptized and desire to become members would first take adult instruction classes, be baptized and then make a confession of faith in the Rite of Confirmation for adults.
Transfer of Membership - If you have moved into the area and were a member of another member congregation of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, you may request a transfer of membership from your previous congregation. We would like you to attend a new membership class as a time to learn, or ask questions, about the ministry at Zion.
Profession of Faith - If you've been away from church for a while, and maybe your membership has been dropped, either from this congregation, or another Lutheran congregation, we would like you to attend a new membership class as a time to learn and ask questions about the ministry at Zion, as well as a refresher of what we believe, teach, and confess.
New Membership Classes are held as needed. There are usually 8 sessions, but may be shorted depending on the speed at which the material is covered.
